At Least Four Die In Karshi Flash Flood

Search and rescue operations are ongoing in Karshi, a satellite town of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja after a flood disaster in the early hours of sunday killed at least four people.


Director-General, FCT Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), Abbas Idriss says the cause of the flooding is the overflow of a culvert which was constructed in place of a bridge on the Karshi by-pass.
FCT authorities have engaged the services of local divers as families in the affected area search for their missing loved ones.
The flood which swept through the community destroyed several houses and other property including vehicles which were submerged in the water.
As at the time of this report, the FCT Minister, Muhammad Musa Bello was on his way to Karshi town for an on-the-spot assessment of the damage caused by the flood.
