Taraba Government Denies Training Illegal Militia

The Taraba state government says it is not training any illegal security outfit as alleged by one Lieutenant Colonel Sani Adamu, who is the commanding officer of the 23 mechanized battalion Serti, it described the allegation as false, and a gross misrepresentation of facts done deliberately to misinform the public. 
The state government said the training being conducted is for marshals to enforce the anti-open grazing law as approved by the Taraba state house of assembly, under the state's open grazing restriction, and ranches establishment law. It added that the training is being conducted by a licensed security agency, and does not involve the use of any kind of weapons.

The state government made this known in a press statement signed by the senior special assistant to Governor Darius Ishaku on media and publicity Bala Dan-Abu.

It further says all security agencies in the state have been duely informed of the training that was in its second phase in Serti, Gashaka local government area of the state.






The media aide says the state government has done nothing illegal, as proper procedures were followed, and several states in the country have established similar security outfits in the country, to deal with security issues peculiar to them.

The state government also cautioned security agencies against politicizing genuine efforts by the state government to solve problems affecting unity and peace in the state.

Taraba state government also reiterate its commitment to peace and good neighbourliness among its people, and no blackmail will be a distraction.
